What do I have to do to buy a gun to have shipped?
Legally when an individual wants to buy a gun through the mail they must have it shipped to a Federal Firearms License (FFL) holder. However if you do not have an FFL you can still order online. First find a local gun store or other FFL holder in your area and get their permission to have a gun shipped to them from Alpine Arms. Most dealers will do a transfer for you for a small fee.

Second have them send us a signed in ink copy of their FFL or email a legible signed copy, including their phone number, email address, and contact name. They only need to send this once as it is kept on file until it expires.

Third once we have the FFL on file you can order online, being sure to enter the FFL’s info in the space for shipping address and your info in the space for billing address. We can then ship to the dealer’s place of business and you can pick up your gun from them, meeting all local state and federal laws. If you order and we have no FFL on file we will email you back explaining that you need an FFL causing your order to be delayed. All items are subject to prior sale. NOTE: If you are concerned about quantity running out or reserving a one-of-a-kind item then you would need to call us. You can use a credit card to reserve an item immediately we will charge your card and hold it for a limited time while you arrange to have an FFL transfer dealer send their license as soon as possible. We will not hold an item indefinitely.

If you do not have an FFL you can still call in an order. It is best to first find a local gun store or other FFL holder in your area and get their permission to have a gun shipped to them from J&G. Most dealers will do a transfer for you for a small fee. Second, have them send us a signed in ink copy of their FFL, or fax a legible signed copy (C&R licenses cannot be faxed, only mailed), including their phone number and contact name. They only need to send this once as it is kept on file until it expires. You can include your payment, whether money order or credit card, along with the FFL if you like, or call in with your credit card, being sure to reference the FFL you will be using. If you are concerned about quantity running out, or reserving a one-of-a-kind item, then you can call and use a credit card to reserve an item immediately, we will charge your card and hold it for a limited time while you arrange to have an FFL transfer dealer send their license as soon as possible. We will not hold an item indefinitely. Then we can then ship to the dealer’s place of business and you can pick up your gun from them, meeting all local, state, and federal laws.

What do I have to do to buy a gun to pick up directly?
As a licensed firearms dealer, before Alpine Arms can sell a firearm, the purchaser must complete, under penalty of perjury, a Firearms Transaction Record (Form 4473). Once the form is completed, and before any firearm is transferred, the purchaser must pass a mandatory background check through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), which is run by the FBI. Once the purchaser passes the background check establishing that he/she is not a prohibited person, the firearm may be transferred. Federal law requires a licensed dealer to report (Form 3310.4) multiple sales of handguns (more than one handgun to the same purchaser within a five-day period) to ATF and local law enforcement by the close of business. Federal law prohibits the sale of handguns across state lines. For example, a New York resident cannot purchase a handgun in New Jersey.

If you would like to pick up a firearm directly from Alpine Arms, you should schedule an appointment. Our office hours are typically from 10am to 2pm daily. With a scheduled appointment, we can be available most any time of the day or evening.

If you purchase a firearm from Alpine Arms, you can either purchase it from our Online Store, or by calling direct and we will order it for you if it isn't listed on our Specials Page as being in stock. Once your firearm arrives, we will meet and run your background check. If you purchase the firearm from somewhere else and want to transfer it through Alpine Arms, see below for those details.

What does FFL stand for?
FFL stands for Federal Firearm License. An FFL is issued by the U.S. Government and is required of any individual or company engaged in the business of selling firearms. The key word there is in the "business" of. You do not necessarily need an FFL to sell a firearm as much as you need someone with an FFL to "sell" or transfer it for you. The FFL must be the middle man between those who do not have an FFL. It has been a legal requirement since the enactment of the Gun Control Act of 1968.

How do I find a FFL dealer?
One reliable website is FFLFinder.com. You can also use the GunsAmerica FFL Search or the GunBroker Dealer Network. If that doesn't work, "let your fingers do the walking" in your local yellow pages.

How do I know if I can legally buy or sell a gun?
Each state has different age and eligibility requirements for firearms purchases and sales. Usually the age requirement is between 18 and 21 yrs old. Check with your local authorities for the correct age and requirements in your area. It is the BUYER's responsibility to know their own state and local laws. One way to find out quick is to check with a local licensed firearms dealer (FFL dealer). By Federal law, the person who ships a gun or received the shipment of a gun must be a licensed dealer (FFL Dealer). There are a few exceptions, such as certain antiques or parts. We recommend you check with the ATF, the NRA, and/or a local FFL dealer for details. If you are not a licensed dealer, you must make arrangements with a licensed dealer in your state to transfer the firearm.

How do I find out what the laws are in a state?
To get the most reliable and accurate information we recommend you contact your local authorities, the NRA, or your local FFL Dealer. Visit the NRA's state-by-state gun laws guide. You can find a FFL dealer through your local yellow pages or you can click here for options to find a FFL Dealer near you.

Are there local laws in individual towns & cities I have to know about?
Yes. There are federal regulations and laws, there are state laws, and there are laws that can pertain to certain municipalities or towns/cities. Contact your local authorities or an FFL dealer closest to you for information. You can find a FFL dealer through your local yellow pages or you can click here for options to find a FFL Dealer near you.

Can you ship ammo to Alaska or Hawaii?
We do not ship to Alaska to Hawaii.
Top of Page

Are there any restrictions on magazines?
There was a law enacted by congress in 1994 to ban the future manufacture of magazines that hold more than 10 rounds for civilians. This law expired in September 2004 and companies can now manufacture large capacity magazines again. Some states have gone further and implemented their own bans. For this reason we do not ship magazines that hold over 10 rounds to California, nor magazines that hold over 15 rounds to New Jersey.

***CLASS 3***Do you sell suppressors or machine guns, aren't they illegal?
Machine guns are not illegal several states. Yes, there is more red tape to wade through to purchase one than there is for other firearms, but any adult that can pass the background check is eligible. Alpine Arms is NOT a Class 3 dealer, but we do have contacts with several Class 3 dealers in the state that will be happy to assist you with your purchase of suppressors or machine guns.

Is there a waiting period to buy a gun?
In Colorado, there is no waiting period. The only wait is the background check itself to buy a gun, which can take anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 days and is done by phone or internet. You can leave with your firearm purchase as soon as the background check is processed and approved.

PLEASE NOTE: As of 11/19/2008, Colorado: "The CBI InstaCheck Unit is currently experiencing an extraordinarily high volume of requests for firearm background checks. Due to the record setting transaction volume, unless the transaction is delayed, the anticipated response time will be within 24 hours. In addition to ensuring that we provide the highest level of customer service possible, The CBI InstaCheck Unit remains committed to the public safety of the Citizens of Colorado."

What if I don’t know if my background check will clear?
If you are unsure about your background check, please make an appointment with us to purchase your firearm in person. We will run your background check at that time and, if approved, we will complete the transaction. Please read our Return Policy. If in doubt, get checked out - prior to your purchase.
Top of Page

Can I purchase more than one firearm at a time?
Yes. If an individual purchases more than one handgun in a 5 business day period, your FFL Dealer will have to turn in a Multi-Gun Form to the FBI and their local authorities.
Top of Page

Do you have to run a background check for ammunition purchases?
Not at this time.
Top of Page

Can you fix my gun for me?
No, we do not currently have a gunsmith on the premises that can do repairs and other work. However, we do have a network of people we can recommend for you to use. Please contact us for details.
Top of Page

Do you have a lay-a-way plan?
No, we do not have any type of payment plan or lay a way installment plan. All purchases must be paid in full at the time of transaction.
Top of Page

Is old ammo safe to shoot?
It depends. All ammo, new or old, should only be fired in firearms that you know are safe. With old ammo there are sometimes duds or misfires, but this does not necessarily mean the ammo is unsafe.

Can I buy a gun for my friend? What about for my child?
It is normally illegal to purchase a firearm for another person; this is called a straw-man purchase and is prohibited. A straw purchase is an illegal firearm purchase where the actual buyer of the gun, being unable to pass the required federal background check or desiring to not have his or her name associated with the transaction, uses a proxy buyer who can pass the required background check to purchase the firearm for him/her. It is highly illegal and punishable by a $250,000 fine and 10 years in prison. The background check at the time of purchase needs to be done on the person who the firearm is actually for. There are exceptions to this regulation for gifts, thus we allow it for family members. Parent or Grandparent can buy for their children or grandchildren and vice versus. Husband and wife can buy for each other. Siblings cannot buy for each other. These exceptions are valid only provided that the person the gun is for is not restricted from possessing a firearm.
Top of Page

Do I have to register my gun?
You do not have to register your gun after you buy it. For now the government considers your gun sufficiently registered by you filling out the form 4473. The gun dealer must keep these forms for 20 years after the sale.
Top of Page

What types of guns are banned?
There was a ban enacted by congress on the manufacture of assault rifles. This ban expired September 2004, and features such as bayonet lug, flash hider, and folding stocks are permitted on US made guns. There are still bans on many imported rifles.
Top of Page

If they are banned then why are you selling AK-47's and FAL rifles?
The current imported rifles of these types that are for sale are not considered imported assault rifles. They have been assembled in the US using a certain number of US made parts, so they do not fall under the bans which apply to imported rifles.
Top of Page

Aren't all these rules unconstitutional according to the 2nd amendment?
Yes. The 2nd amendment, as commonly accepted by most constitutional scholars, means just what it says; I know, why do we need scholars to tell us it means just what it says? It clearly says that your right to own a firearm is not to be infringed. Every law congress passes restricting firearms is just that - an infringement.
Top of Page

What can I do to stop and repeal gun control?
Get involved, vote and find and support pro-freedom candidates. Look into groups such as RMGO, Gun Owners of America, JPFO, and the NRA.

How can I get on your email newsletter list?
You can sign up by filling out the newsletter form. A confirmation email will be sent to you. By doing this you will be the first to know when we get new items, and you will receive special sale notices for price reductions, etc. We do our best to send these newsletter out monthly, but sometimes get behind. Thanks for understanding. If there is something specific you would like to know about, just let us know when you fill out the form or email us through the contact page.

Can you tell me which dealer in my area you can ship a gun to for me?
Sorry, we do not know which dealers in your area will do a transfer for you. It is up to you to find one that has terms acceptable to you. For privacy reasons we do not give out information about which dealers in your area we ship to, since not every dealer does transfers and they may not want us to divulge their information. See "How Do I Find a FFL Dealer?" above to find one in your area.
Top of Page

Can you special order a gun not in stock?
Sometimes. Please call to request it. If we are able obtain the item you are requesting, we require a NON-REFUNDABLE 50% deposit at the time of order.
Top of Page

Why do you list items you do not have in stock?
We want to give you the opportunity to buy them if you need them. Some items are not in high demand and it is not feasible to keep them on hand, for example some calibers of ammo are not very common. Occasionally, people still request them, so rather than just not carry them at all, we advertise that we can get them, this helps people get items that are hard to find. Also, since many print ads must be prepared several weeks or months in advance of publication, occasionally we sell out of something before the ad can be updated.

How do I schedule an appointment? What are your office hours?
Alpine Arms is open 4 days a week. We are in the office to accept deliveries from 10am to 2 pm. We have posted a calendar that shows when are closed, to assist you further; it can be found HERE. Appointments can be scheduled for any time throughout the day, but we will meet with you personally by appointment only, so feel free to contact us and schedule your appointment today!

I have a Colorado medical marijuana card, may I still purchase a firearm?
No. Marijuana is still an illegal drug according to federal laws and all firearm purchases are conducted according to federal law. In order to purchase a firearm or have a firearm transferred to you through Alpine Arms, you must fill out an ATF Form 4473, which is a federal form. Question 11e on the 4473 Form asks, "Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?" Even though, according to Colorado law, marijuana use is legal in some cases by a medical marijuana card holder, marijuana use and possession is still ILLEGAL according to federal law; therefore, this question must be answered "Yes" and the applicant CANNOT purchase or have a firearm transferred.
